The Channel 7 Telethon Trust is a registered charitable trust dedicated to raising funds to improve the lives of children and young people throughout Western Australia. Its philosophy is to financially support the medical and social welfare of children and young people, and to fund research into children’s diseases.
Since its inception in 1968, Telethon has raised over $94 million and provided much needed financial assistance to a significant number of charitable organisations, children's hospitals and research/medical facilities in Western Australia.
The Trust operates separately from Channel Seven Perth, with a Board of Trustees and a small team in the Telethon Office.
Telethon and the Trust exist because of the generosity of the Seven Network and Channel Seven Perth. Both provide the Trust with tangible and intangible support through infrastructure facilities, service and professional advice.
The Telethon Weekend live 25 hour appeal is held at Perth Convention Exhibition Centre and is televised on Channel 7 Perth and on the Golden West Network throughout Regional WA.
The Telethon team vigorously fundraises across twelve months a year with a varied and exciting schedule of projects supported by commercial partnerships.
Some of the iconic Telethon events and projects include The Lexus Ball (always held on the same weekend as Telethon), The Kids Carnival, Telethon Christmas Sizzle ( at the Christmas Pageant), selling Fat Cat Dolls through Friendlies Chemists, Telethon Viva Photo Album, Telethon Family Movie Days, The Chris Mainwaring Tribute Match, ASICS Bridges Fun Run, Garden Week, Special Edition Monopoly Games and Telethon Mega Bingo at Burswood Entertainment Complex.
The charity has received long standing support from leading Western Australian companies such as the JWH Group, which builds the Telethon Metropolitan and Regional Homes each year through In-Vogue and Country Builders W.A., the Satterley Group and Peet who supply the land.
BankWest supports Telethon through its service centres which facilitate the collection of donations after the Telethon weekend as well as sponsoring "In Touch With Telethon" the weekly update on Channel 7 that keeps viewers up to date with Telethon events.
The Perth Convention Exhibition Centre enables Telethon to bring the fun and excitement to Perth families by providing the venue for the television broadcast, the Beneficiaries Expo, and the Kids’ Carnival. AV Partners, Perth Expo Hire and Cliftons provide an enormous amount of infrastructure and facilities for the Telethon weekend. The Sunday Times provides editorial support across the year, as well as turning over their entire call centre and information technology department to receive the thousands of telephone donations that come in over the weekend.
Our regional television partner, the Golden West Network, takes the Telethon program across Australia's largest state, from the Kimberleys in the north to Esperance in the South. GWN also assists Telethon in regional fundraising projects.
Our biggest supporter by far is the Seven Network through Channel Seven Perth who outlay more than $600,000 to put the weekend on the air.
